Honeycomb or diamond: how EVA cells work
The pattern on an EVA mat is not just for looks. The difference between honeycomb and diamond cells, and which suits your car.
Look at an EVA mat from the side and you will see it is not a flat sheet. The surface is made of thin ridges with hollows between them. The ridges carry the weight of your foot, the hollows collect everything else: water, snow, sand, small debris.
Honeycomb
Six-sided cells, like a beehive. The ridges spread the load evenly in every direction, so the honeycomb keeps its shape under a heel. The pattern looks calm and technical and works well in dark interiors.
Diamond
Elongated diamond-shaped cells. The pattern looks more dynamic and brings out the base colour, which is why it is often chosen for beige, brown and blue mats. It holds water just as well as honeycomb.
Base colour and trim
A mat is made of two colours: the EVA base and the trim, the tape stitched around the edge. Match your interior or go for contrast. Popular pairs: black with black, black with red, grey with black, beige with brown.
